Part III - Bonus Material:
In West Virginia News, a few weeks ago, the
Superintendent and High School Principals of Harrison County made the decision
to ban all high school dances. Wednesday evening, the Harrison County Board of
Education met to address this issue,
discussing the possible cancellation of all high school dances excluding prom
because of inappropriate behavior. Officials say the intent behind the ban was
to increase awareness of inappropriate dancing. The board would like to lift
the ban and move toward a healthier and safer environment for school dances.
The final decision on Wednesday was to allow individual school administrators
in the county to work out the issue on their own. Some parents wish there were
clearer rules and consequences and that parents should become more involved in
monitoring students.
In Wayne County news, one patient came to Dr.
Adriane Trout with symptoms such as headache, fever, and chills back in August
of 2009, doctor trout thought maybe it was a urinary tract infection. She
started the patient on normal treatment for UTI. No one expected the cause to be anything
special, but the outcome was nothing short of extraordinary. After multiple
visits to the doctors and the ER, no one had an answer for the woman, whose
feet had begun to swell and on whose legs bruises appeared mysteriously. After Dr.
Trout met with a disease specialist, they discussed the possibility of dengue
fever. This seemed unlikely as the patient had not travelled outside of the US,
but she had been in the Key West region of Florida. Further tests confirmed
dengue fever to be the culprit. Dr. Trout called the Florida Health Department
and the CDC. Dr. Trout’s patient was the first of the Key West dengue fever
outbreak, the first noted in the US since 1945 and the first in Florida since
the mid 1930’s. The cause of this disease was a species of mosquito. All of the
patients of this outbreak did recover. On September 15th of last
year, Animal Planet contacted Dr. Trout, who now practices at the Gananda
Family Medicine facility in Walworth. Last November, a television crew came in
with the female patient that Dr. Trout had helped. A full day of reenacting the
scenario later, an episode of “The Monster Inside Me” was filmed. Friday, November
23rd, the show featuring this case finally aired on Animal Planet.
This part ended with another Moment with Adam Avery.
